SWBC Bass Open Tournament Rules

 

 

Rules:

 

Each participant agrees that, by signing the entry form, the decisions of the tournament director or club official are final. Still Waters Bass Club reserves the right to adjust tournament times, dates, and schedules for just cause.  Any protest must be reported to the tournament director or officials no later than 5 minutes after the close of weigh in and must be submitted in writing.

 

 

 

Registration times and required live well check

 

Registration will open March 1st and continue through the morning of April 12 at the Bug Beach ramp on Possum Kingdom Lake until the start of the tournament. PreRegistration may be completed by mail (see entry form page) and received by Thursday, April 10th, or online until Wednesday April 9th.  Onsite registration (in-person registration) may be completed at the Bug Beach Ramp on Friday (April 11) evening between 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. or the morning of the tournament(April 12th) between 5:00 to 6:30 a.m.  All entrants must have their boats at the staging area Saturday morning at the launch ramp (Bug Beach) where they will undergo a live well check before fishing in the tournament. After passing a live well check, anglers may trailer and launch at any other ramp on the lake.  Angler(s) must be present at the end of the tournament to collect any monetary prize winnings or merchandize prizes.

 

 

 

Entry Fees:

 

Adult Division:  $75 per angler which includes Big Bass (2 places for BB)
Youth Division: $30 per angler which includes Big Bass (2 places for BB)

 

 

 

Participation/Eligibility:

 

Anyone under the age of 18 must have the signature of their parent or guardian regardless if they are competing either in the adult or youth division.  Anyone previously disqualified from any fishing tournament is ineligible to participate in this tournament.  There are no exceptions.

 

 

 

PreTournament Practice:

 

Possum Kingdom Lake will be off-limits Monday through Thursday the week prior to the tournament. Friday, April 11th, the day prior to the tournament will be open to prefishing

 

 

 

Trailering:

 

Trailering will be allowed ONLY after the participant angler has checked in at the tournament headquarters at the Bug Beach Ramp and has attended a live well check.

 

 

 

Weigh-in:

 

An adult division stringer shall consist of no more than 5 fish (small mouth, spotted, or largemouth bass) of a minimum of 14 inches in length. A youth division stringer shall consist of no more than 3 fish (small mouth, spotted, or largemouth bass) of a minimum of 14 inches in length. Any angler bringing to the scales a short fish not measuring 14 inches will be accessed a 1 pound penalty.  The short fish will not be weighed. A dead fish will be accessed a .5 pound penalty.  No iced, frozen, or pale gilled fish will be weighed.  All live bass will be returned to the lake. Per state law, dead fish may not be returned to the lake. Bring no more than five fish (three fish for Youth) to the weigh-in and designate which fish you are going to weigh for the Big Bass.  Bass brought to the scale must be in water and must have been legally caught from Possum Kingdom Lake during the official tournament hours on April 12, 2025.

 

 

 

Start/Stop Times:

 

Lines in at 6:45 am and all lines must be out by 3:00 pm.  The Scales will open at 2:30 and close at 3:45 p.m.  Taking care of your fish in a running livewell is of paramount importance.  Do not take your fish out of your live well until you have a reasonable and quick expectation for the fish to be weighed alive and returned to the lake as quickly as possible.

 

 

 

Payout:

 

Adult Division: 1st - $2500; 2nd $1500; 3rd - $1000; 4th - $750; 5th $500; 6th - $350; 7th - $250; 1st Big Bass - $750; 2nd Big Bass - $250;  Additional Prizes: Closest stringer to secret target weight without going over - $500; All early bird (by March 31st) entries are entered in a $250 drawing; Last Place weight stringer - $100; Additional Prizes will be drawn for non winning placement anglers.

Youth Division: 1st - $300; 2nd - $200; 3rd - $100; 1st Big Bass - $100; 2nd Big Bass - $50.

Only one prize may be won by any angler with the exception of the Big Bass prize.  All ties will be be broken by the flip of the coin unless the tied individuals agree to split the awards designated for both places.

 

 

 

Safe Boating:

 

All state, federal, and local boating laws must be obeyed and a life jacket must be worn when the boat is on plane.  Youth anglers must wear a life jacket at all times when in the boat on the water. All boats must have operable lights when leaving/launching from the ramp.

 

 

 

Permitted Fishing Methods:

 

All bass must be caught alive in a conventional sporting manner from a boat.  Only artificial lures may be used with the exception of pork trailers. No live bait may be used.  Angler may only fish with one rod at a time during the tournament competition. Any tournament angler must have cast, set the hook, and played the fish to the boat himself or herself.  Assistance with the dip netting is permitted.  Trolling with the combustion engine as a method of fishing is prohibited. 

 

 

 

Sportsmanship/Conduct:

 

Still Waters Bass Club is a Christian club and we ask that all language and conduct exemplify a Christian attitude, honesty, and integrity and follow high standards of sportsmanship, courtesy, conservation, and follow all Lake and State of Texas Regulations.

 

 

 

Alcohol/Non-Prescription Drugs:

 

The use of alcohol and/or any illegal non-prescription drugs during any of the tournament hours (5:00 am to 6:00 pm) or at the weigh-in site will result in that individual angler's disqualification from the tournament and eligibility for any of the prize monies and/or prize drawings.

 

 

 

Permitted fishing location:

 

Anglers may fish anywhere on Possum Kingdom Lake waters, except areas designated "No fishing," "No Boats," or within 50 yards of another competitor's boat (common sense should prevail) unless otherwise agreed upon by the other tournament angler.

 

 

 

Polygraph:

 

All prize winners are subject to a polygraph test.  Polygraph testing will be performed at the discretion of the Tournament Director at any time.  Anyone who is required to take a polygraph must pass the test before receiving any prize.  If a winner refuses to take a polygraph, he or she will be disqualified.  Polygraph tests will be administered the day of the tournament.
