Brownwood has many small coves, bays and creeks with a variety of habitat.
The lake is primarily lined by rocky structure and boat docks. The upper
end of the Jim Ned and Pecan Bayou arms have standing timber, black willow
trees and buttonbush. Alligator weed and bulrush are scattered throughout
the reservoir, but most alligator weed is located in Sowell Creek. Those
anglers with depth finders should be able to locate numerous humps, ledges
and creek channels.. |

Comments:This lake is known for its excellent white bass and hybrid striped bass fishing. White bass are most easily caught from early May through October when they school in the main-lake area. During this time both white and hybrid striped bass can be caught on the surface. 'Jump fishing" is a popular technique for schools of surface-feeding fish, Lake Brownwood always supports excellent numbers of largemouth bass, but typically few legal-size fish. There is a 16-inch minimum length and 5 fish bag limit on largemouth bass. White crappie fishing can he very good, especially if you can locate some brushpiles or productive docks. Smallmouth bass are present in very small numbers. The lake is home to Lake Brownwood State Park. The State Park offers cabins, fishing docks, camping and more, Other facilities are equally impressive. Florida largemouth bass were introduced in 1975.
